First, let’s look at what you’ll need from your vehicle. You’ll need a four-door vehicle. Hey, that means sedan, SUV or MiniVan, not a two-door coupe. It must also be under 10 years of age, for Uber. Lyft has less stringent vehicle age requirements, but they vary from state to state.
So if you’re buying a used car, you’ll want a 2009 model year or newer, since you’ll be out of luck in a couple of years.
Having a vehicle that meets requirements in a necessity, but it must also be properly insured. Both Uber and Lyft offer some insurance while you are driving to pick up or transporting a client, but you may have to notify your insurer that you are using your vehicle for commercial purposes.
Just as you will be required to undergo a background screening to ensure you are a good driver and have do not have issues that will negatively affect your ability to provide excellent service. Be assured that our vehicle should be in excellent condition as well with properly inflated tires, fit wipers, and tuned up for peak fuel efficiency.
If you’re buying a new vehicle, your issues will be negligible other than to make sure to properly maintain your vehicle. If you purchase an extended service contract on a new or used vehicle it may or may not cover a commercially used vehicle. It’s best to ask about this. You can check with Sunset KIA’s expert finance and insurance manager to determine what your particular needs may be.
